DAY 9, Acts 4-6

Good Morning!  My name is Enoch Watt, and I was asked to give you a devotional thought from the book of Acts, chapters 4-6.

KEY VERSE:
Acts 5:42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
REFLECTIONS:
Acts 4-6 is a great passage on the earliest Christians and the New Testament church. This is important for today's Christians to study and understand because our task and our message has not changed. While our methods, culture, technology and virtually every facet of life have changed in the last 2,000 years, the Gospel has remained the same. Christ's death and resurrection are just as vital and relevant to us today as they were to those early Christians that experienced it firsthand.
Have you ever witnessed something so incredible that you just had to tell someone about it? On my job this week, we lifted and set a giant unit comprised of structural steel and pipes that weighed over 500,000 pounds. It was incredible! When I got home, I couldn't wait to tell my wife and kids about it. Strangely, they weren't the least bit interested. We have, however, a much more compelling story to tell. Notice the words of Peter and John in Acts 4:20 "...we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." These men had the opportunity to witness firsthand the death and resurrection of Jesus. They walked with Him and talked with Him, and it showed! In verse 13 of chapter 4, we see that the Sadducees marvelled at their boldness, taking knowledge that they had been with Jesus.
We, too, as believers, have been with Jesus, and we have an amazing story to tell. We were born on a path to Hell, and by His saving power, by grace and through faith, we have been made joint heirs with Christ. We have a home in Heaven and a Savior Who loves us and prays for us. Our task is the same as that of the early Christians. Acts 5:42 "...they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ."
APPLICATION:
We have a story to tell! As Christ's body in this world, we are to do what He would do if He were here physically. We ought to be striving daily to spread the news of Christ's love and sacrifice for us. We have been given a great gift, and we do the world a great injustice when we fail to share it with them. We have been given our example in the book of Acts. Let's work at telling others about Jesus today!
Thank you for being a part of the 40 Day Challenge. Thanks for reading, and you have a blessed day!
In Christ,
Enoch Watt
